Self-taught Haitian artist Madsen Monpremier was born in Gonaives on August 12, 1953. He attended Les Frères du Sacré Coeur and College Immaculée de Conception Schools and entered the Centre d'Art in 1971. He was helped by Rosevelt Sanon and Gérard Valcin.
