Rachelle Bussières (née en 1986 à Québec) est une photographe canadienne basée à Brooklyn, New York. Titulaire d’une maîtrise en beaux-arts du San Francisco Art Institute, elle a reçu plusieurs bourses du Conseil des arts du Canada. Son travail sans caméra explore l’impact de la lumière sur notre psyché, notre environnement et l’univers, s’inspirant de l’astronomie, du transcendantalisme et du sublime. Finaliste du Prix Portfolio de la Fondation Aperture en 2021, elle a participé à des résidences au Brooklyn Darkroom, au Banff Centre, à Silver Art Projects, à la Penumbra Foundation et au Headlands Center for the Arts. Son travail a été exposé à l’international, notamment à Equivalentbehaviour (Londres), l’International Center for Photography (New York) et le Headlands Center for the Arts (Sausalito), et fait partie de collections telles que le Museum of Contemporary Photography (Chicago), les archives et la bibliothèque du SFMOMA et Facebook (Sunnyvale). Son travail a été présenté dans Artforum, Le Soleil, La Presse, Hyperallergic et Lenscratch. Fondatrice de LUMIÈRE NYC, elle développe un dialogue entre les pratiques photographiques historiques et contemporaines à travers l’impression au lumen. Her cameraless works explore light’s impact on our psyche, environment, and the universe, drawing inspiration from astronomy, transcendentalism, and the sublime. Bussières has been a finalist for the 2021 Aperture Foundation Portfolio Prize and has attended residencies at Brooklyn Darkroom, Banff Centre, Silver Art Projects, Penumbra Foundation, and Headlands Center for the Arts. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including Equivalentbehaviour (London), the International Center for Photography (New York), and Headlands Center for the Arts (Sausalito), and is held in collections such as the Museum of Contemporary Photography (Chicago), SFMOMA’s Library and Archives, and Facebook (Sunnyvale). Her work has been featured in Artforum, Le Soleil, La Presse, Hyperallergic, and Lenscratch. As the founder of LUMIÈRE NYC, she fosters dialogue between historical and contemporary photography through lumen printing. Bussières splits her time between New York City and Québec City.
