As a child, Miguel Edwards grew up in Rita, New Mexico, designing sculptures from materials left over from his parents' creative endeavors. His father was a mechanical engineer who was also a builder/inventor and his mother was a textile weaver and painter. After this creative childhood, Edwards studied jewelry design at the University of New Mexico, giving him the skills for fine craftsmanship. Finding his stride in 2009, Edwards became a large-scale steel sculptor with gallery representation. Since then, his artwork has been exhibited across the U.S in Denver, Santa Fe, Los Angeles, Seattle, Palm Springs, Scottsdale, Camano Island, Miami, as well as in Europe. Edwards also has public artworks featured in the cities of Seattle, Bellevue, Palm Springs, Sun Valley, Edmonds, Auburn and at the International Exhibition at Peace Arch Park and Manheim Germany. Edwards is also known for his large-scale sculptures, one a three-and-a-half story kinetic stainless sculpture with glass, which pierces the titled "Perseus II." The first significant piece Edwards created in Bend was the commissioned "Hope Rising," the flaming cauldron for the opening ceremony for the 2018 Special Olympics. Edwards is currently working on six public art projects in the Puget Sound Region. You can find him busy in his new shop in Bend, Oregon, or adventuring with his screenwriter wife. “I draw inspiration from many places, and light inspires my works from photography to sculptures. My fascination with light, the way light lays across arcs changing tones and creating penumbras is all part of my work.”
