Born on December 24, 1940 in Huntsville, Ontario, Murray Favro began his art career painting, eventually turning his sights on other mediums and interests such as film images and machines. Favro studied at H.B. Beal Technical and Commercial School from 1958 to 1962, where he was enrolled in their specialized art classes. He also showed an interest towards inventions and tinkering thanks to his uncle who worked with machines. His work has been exibited in the Art Gallery of Ontario (1983) and at the London Regional Art & Historical Museum (1998). Favro has been awarded the Gerhson Iskowitz Award (1997) and the Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts (2007). He is also currently a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, and in the band, The Nihilist Spasm.
