Maria Diamantidou (b. 1996) is a Greek visual artist based in Athens. Her practice focuses on painting compositions permeated with symbolic personal narratives. Inspired by mythology and folklore culture, Diamantidou depicts faerie realms drawn from the synthesis of diverse visual and conceptual elements. Her latest work is characterised by recurrent sexual scenes of otherworldy characters who have renounced their earthly beingness and have transformed into demonic creatures. These primitive forms are employed by the artist as a symbolic vocabulary of earthly pleasures, such as drunkenness, sex and the intense emotional states that humans can experience. Maria Diamantidou studied painting at the Department of Fine and Applied Arts at the University of Western Macedonia. In 2023, she had her first solo exhibition "Psaropoulia" on Lesvos island, along with her participation in the duo show "Secret Garden" with Zois Geros. In 2021, she presented her graduation show titled "Vine Myths". Her work has been featured in art fairs, festivals and exhibitions, such as Mykonos Biennale 2023; Art Thessaloniki 2022.
