Natalya Burd has traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, South America and the NorthAmerican continent, pursuing her love of the natural world. Burd has camped and hikedin national parks, forests, preserves and wilderness areas throughout the United States,sites that inspired her recent immersive installations. Featuring hand-painted imageryon colored plexiglass mounted to reflective mirrors, her constructions envelop herviewers in a shimmering atmosphere, evoking the transience of human experienceagainst the enduring natural world. Born in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Burd emigrated to the United States in 1996. She holdsMaster of Fine Arts degrees from the University of Washington, Seattle (1999) and theMoscow Academy of Art and Industrial Design in Moscow, Russia. (1996). Burd haslived and worked in the Bay Area for the past twenty years while exhibiting nationallyand internationally. In 2016, she received a Visual Artist Laureate Award fromSVCreates, and in 2017, was awarded residency fellowship at the Djerassi ResidentArtists Program in Woodside, California. She has exhibited at the De Young Museum; San Jose ICA; the New Museum of Los Gatos; Marine Museum of Contemporary Arts; her work is in the permanent collection of the San Francisco Airport Museum, Google and other art foundation.
