After graduating from the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles California with a Bachelor's Degree in Professional Arts, Robert Weller began to gain recognition for his artwork, and he was soon featured in numerous one-man shows throughout the country.Weller's pieces are often mistaken for photographs, as his level of detail is so much finer than most realist painters. His technique, refined over decades, requires a large amount of patience and, for many pieces, a very small brush.Weller masterfully combines light and shadow to create beautiful realistic paintings that appear flawless. Oregon's views and popular landscapes become serene and timeless. His sensitive renditions of familiar rural scenes impart a gentle philosophy that invites us to enjoy the view, and the feeling.Weller has long lived beyond the western boundaries of Portland. The valleys, hills and farms of western Washington County and the foothills of the Coast Range Mountains have been has primary, and favorite, inspirations. There is a subtle quality of comfort in many of his works, and his deft touch with detail, in both warm and cool scenes, have made him one of the most sought-after and individualistic artists in the Northwest.Robert's works are held in the public collections of many organizations and businesses, such as Pacific University, Good Samaritan Hospital and Medical Center of Portland, Georgia Pacific Corporation, US National Bank of Oregon, US Bureau of Land Management, Oregon Pulmonary Associates of Portland, and in State of Oregon offices in Salem and Pendleton, the Oregon Court of Appeals, as well as the estate of former Senator Mark Hatfield and in numerous other private firms. His works are also in many private individual collections across North America. The late 1970's through the early 2000's were some of Robert's most productive years, but even then, each piece took so much time that he could never be called prolific. But he did create enough work to have many collectors who sought his works from that time to today.Since about 2020 Weller has mostly retired, after a number of years of only creating a few select originals each year.Gary Lawrence considered Robert Weller "a painting genius, a real historical painter of the Northwest."Weller imparts not only realism of a particular place, but also brings to his works a kind of depth that is rarely seen, and his works seem to be bringing us into a world, perhaps in our history, that we rarely see today.Weller is now considered a kind of historian of the land, and of those who work the land, in this part of the country.Robert Weller has painted professionally for over 35 years, and has been represented by Lawrence Gallery for most of that time.
