I have always been fascinated by both ceramics and glass - the play of light on glaze and refraction through glass, the beauty of it, and the process of making it - but scared in some way of taking the plunge with my own hands. Luckily, fear gave way to anatural desire to create.I have been fortunate, in these past ten years, to have been exposed to artists of skill and imagination: Alyssa Oxley, Marty Kremer, Brad Walker, Amanda Taylor and Kevin O’Toole at Corning, Warm Glass, Vitrum and Oatka Studios. Working with these artistshas enabled me to access my innate creativity and find my unique voice. The classes have helped me to refine my skills, explore techniques to translate into my work, and given me the confidence to take risks. I work in glass because of its purity, mystery, strength and translucence. I enjoy the process of designing using the colors of glass - the way they react with each other, and the way light and shadow affect it. My pieces reflect the lines of horizon - the land andocean and forms in nature. I believe in cold work and embrace the use of both machinery and hand finishing to elevate the quality of my designs. Smoothing edges and enhancing the finish of my piece gives me pleasure. It is an adventure to see what the kiln holds, the learning process of success or failure. I am fascinated by both the science of glass and its reactive nature to heat and to itself.
