Born in Nashville and raised in Ohio, Joey and his family came back to Tennessee when he was a teenager. After high school and college, he moved to New York where he became a hairstylist and also a professor at a makeup school. Always gravitating to art after he returned to Nashville, Joey eventually turned his work with color onto the canvas which became his focus for the future. He was initially influenced by the art scene in Hawaii and particularly Maui. His first and still main inspiration is an international artist named Gil Bruvel. Gil’s philosophy of realism combined with unlimited freedom is what he is aiming for in his work. His goal is to keep pushing the limits of creativity along with perfecting his paint technique.
