Agathe Bouton, a French artist based in the Philadelphia area, is renowned for her innovative approach to printmaking and paper works, which reflect her experiences in diverse international cities. Graduating with a BFA in Painting and Printmaking and later earning an MFA in Arts and Textile Design from the esteemed ESSAA Duperré in Paris, France, Bouton's journey has taken her across continents. Over the past 19 years, she has called various cultural hubs home, including Paris, London, Philadelphia, New York, Rangoon, Dakar, and Istanbul, where she both lived and exhibited her art. Bouton's solo exhibitions have graced prestigious venues such as the Biennale de l’Art Africain Contemporain in Dakar; the Centre d’Arts Plastiques Albert Chanot in Clamart and the Galerie Martine Namy-Caulier in Paris, France; Galerie Od’A in Istanbul, Turkey; River Gallery in Yangon, Burma/Myanmar; the Bettie Morton Gallery in London, UK; and Zürcher Gallery in New York. Her outstanding contributions to printmaking have been recognized with numerous awards in both France and the United States, including the Pierre Laurent First Prize in 2007 in Albiand finalist positions in prestigious competitions like the Prix GRAV’X in 1999 and 2005 in Paris, France. Notably, in 2022, she was honored with the Meyer Family Award for Contemporary Art in the USA and the Women United Art Movement in Printmaking. The following year, she emerged as a finalist in the 98th Annual International Competitions of The Print Center in Philadelphia. Since relocating to the U.S., Bouton has made significant strides in the American art scene, exhibiting extensively in Philadelphia and New York. Her works also find homes in prominent collections worldwide, including the Bibliothèque Nationale, Cabinet des Estampes; L’Inventaire, Artothèque du Nord Pas de Calais; and the Musée Français de la carte à jouer in France, as well as in American public collections like the Print and Pictures Collection at the Free Library of Philadelphia and the Swarthmore College Library.
