Artist’s Statement:“I trust that my paintings are more than just perhaps pretty pictures or thoughtful designsbut are also, more importantly, ideas that suggest meaning beyond the apparent.My works are meant to evoke a magical world, a world of mystery and deep wonder, ofbeauty and balance. I endeavor to create not only a visually stimulating playground for theeye, but a restorative tonic for the mind, as well.” About the Artist’s Work:These mixed media works are made up of components that include vintage fabrics, andhandmade Japanese and Nepalese paper and acrylic paint. Each work is constructed in aneffort to create a visual playground, in which each component is carefully selected to bringabout a harmony of color, pattern, rhythm, and texture. About the Artist:Catie Baldet comes from a family of artists in the southern part of France. Her father was adesigner and decorator for large corporations such as Credit Agricole. She grew up inMillau, France but her formative years were spent in Meyrueis where her family’s secondhome is located. It was here in a world of natural beauty that her ideas for her art developedand inspired her, where she explored caves and hiked the rugged land in and around theGorges du Tarn. She is also a climbing and skiing enthusiast, and until moving to the UnitedStates, she spent many weekends in the French Alps and the Pyrenees honing these skillsAs an adult she lived in close proximity to the Mediterranean Sea where she raised herfamily in Beziers, one of the oldest cities in France. In 1991, she entered the Silmo Exhibition contest for window displays in Paris and won firstprize. In 1992, she entered a second contest for a Lanvin Exhibition for eye wear in Beziersand won first prize. Both contests were national Exhibitions. The first grand prize was an allexpenses paid trip to Venice Italy where she stayed at the gorgeous Danieli Palace Hotel andthe second contest was an all-expenses paid trip to Luxor, Egypt where she stayed at the ClubMediteranee Resort, both of these experiences, unforgettable and inspiring.Whether pottery, bead-work, design, or painting in various media she has always held a keeninterest in art.
