MEATPaintings and installations with canvas and latex paint, exploring sculptural and pictorial possibilities. The combination of different materials is related to the idea of miscegenation and, therefore, hybridization.Cultural hybridization is a post-colonial term, it is the mixture of different meanings and imaginaries that produces a new identity from that combination of a dominant culture and a dominated one.It is the process of taking and being taken, of appropriating and being appropriated. The art and history of Chile and South America are related to this post-colonial notion since we are a result of that mixture of European, African and indigenous cultures. The idea of purity and cleanliness is lost in the process of mixing, because in hybrid cultures everything appears stained, mixed, confused and, therefore, impure and corrupt. The post-colonial identity is built with patches and layers, so that the splash, the strong gesture, the seams and the forced mixture of different materials and meanings relate to that same concept.
