From a family of sportsmen and artists, Voss studied at the Art Student's League in New York, fox hunted and rode races in New York and Maryland, and painted racehorses and hunting horses for his sportsmen friends. Completing more than 500 commissions in a period between 1920 and 1950, Voss died, as he would have liked - out foxhunting with the Elkridge-Hartford Hounds near his Maryland farm.
