For as long as I can remember, I have felt a compulsion to draw. I also grew up camping and fishing at Gorman Falls on the Colorado River in central Texas. Spending a considerable amount of time in the outdoors led to a fascination with wildlife and Natural History. In my childhood years I fancied myself as a wildlife artist. I draw what interests me, which may be anything from fish to birds to insects, using whatever material I find conducive to the task or suits the subject matter the best. Being an avid insect collector since the age of 5, I have been fortunate to have carried out collecting expeditions in many remote rainforests of Central and South America and Africa, and in the process, I have met some interesting people and had incredible experiences. These havebecome the stories that I relate by writing directly on the surface of my insect portraits, which are all drawn from life using the actual specimen in my collection. I call this series of drawings “Insect Narratives”, which to date have ranged in size from 8x10” to 4x8’. These are created out of my desire to share the stories of my personal experiences, but mostly for my own pleasure as I get to relive the aroma of the jungle in Venezuela, the sounds of rainforest birds in the canopy of French Guiana, or the intense colors of a sunrise on the side of a mountain in the Panamanian cloud forest. My drawings will never give them justice, but perhaps you can see in the insects the same handiwork of the Creator that I see. I hope you enjoy my work half as much as I did in getting to live it in the first place. I also have an affinity for all things Texas (being a cousin 9 times removed to Col. William Travis of the Alamo) and cannot help myself from doing subjects synonymous with the Lone Star State. I work mostly on paper in different media, from technical pens to soft pastels, and some rather unorthodox combinations of such. I hope you enjoy seeing what I have poured my life into and maybe you will even find a piece that you just can't live without!
