Sydney Licht tells the domestic experience of society’s materialism via modern takes on still life and draws inspiration from the common objects of everyday life. She lives and works in NYC and on Cape Cod. Originally from the Boston area, Sydney earned her A.B. from Smith College and her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has had solo shows at Kathryn Markel Fine Arts in NYC, the Zillman Art Museum in Bangor, ME, Marianne Deson Gallery in Chicago among other venues. Group exhibitions include those at The Art Institute of Chicago, The Memorial Art Gallery of the University of Rochester, Lori Bookstein Fine Art in NYC, Thomas Deans Fine Art in Atlanta, GA and numerous other galleries nationwide. Sydney was a recipient of an Ohio Arts Council Grant, a Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture Fellowship, a Yaddo Residency Fellowship, and has been a Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome on several occasions. She has been interviewed by Brainard Carey on Yale University’s radio station (WYBC) and by Hilarie Sheets for Elle Decor Magazine. Her work has been reviewed in The Chicago Tribune and by Jerry Saltz for New York Magazine.
