TOMMY LENNARTSSON (Swedish b. 1970 - ) Painter Swedish artist Tommy Lennartsson draws on the visual culture of street and pop art when creating his original vibrant mixed-media artworks. He employs a mix of abstract and figurative elements that give nods to neo-expressionism, faux-naїf, pop, and geometric abstraction schools of art. Lennartsson builds up his canvases to create striking scenes that ignite the viewer’s imagination. “The process is a spontaneous and impulsive one in which I layer elements together until the piece begins to take shape. When I look at my paintings, I’m taken back to my childhood of endless doodling on my bedroom floor,” the artist describes. His figurative abstractions are vibrant, playful and boldly aesthetic paintings that draw the viewer into a strange new universe. Tommy is able to capture the imagination of the viewer with his fantastical hybrid creatures and figures. The innovative way in which Lennartsson explores patterns, forms and figures lends a new dimension to formerly recognizable objects.
