Nancy’s painting practice is based out of her studios in Tiverton, RI, and North Haven, ME. Focusing on landscapes, her paintings evoke the soul of places dear to her, such as the Penobscot Bay island of North Haven, ME; the land, seas, and skies of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and the Sierra Nevadas and Rocky Mountains of the American West. Her unique palette, interpretation of natural forms, and her subtle rendering of atmosphere, present viewers with a highly textural experience of the lands, seas, and skies of her surroundings. Nancy is an actively exhibiting artist member of the Providence Art Club in Providence, RI; the Wickford Art Association in Wickford, RI; and the South County Art Association in North Kingstown, RI. Her work has been featured in several recent and upcoming solo exhibitions in North Haven, ME. Nancy's work is a formal and conceptual study of landscapes and seascapes; particularly fields and groves, forests of evergreens and birches, and the angular forms of mountains and rocks. Her paintings are driven by themes that have always captured her imagination: texture, the play of light on a natural surface, patterns of shadow and darkness, and the interaction of colors that render shapes compelling to the viewer. Nancy's compositions derive from her experience in photography, and are directly related to its principles of framing and formal relations. In nature’s vastness, her works seek to render a sense of intimacy that is also part of our relationship with the physical world.
