In 2021–2022he was a resident at Villa Medici, the French Academy in Rome.During his year of residence as a resident of the Villa Medici in 2021-2022, the artist Benoît Maire designed a series of wooden and metal furniture elements inspired by the Villa Medici, thus renewing the refined language of furniture already existing created by Balthus in the 1960s and by Richard Peduzzi in the early 2000s. Benoît Maire’s creations, whether furniture pieces, sculptures, paintings or videos, all inherently address the question of measu- rement and time. The time needed for conception, for production, nature and human existence all blend together in a reflection on the scale of the human being within a space —a fundamental concept for Le Corbusier, who strove his entire life to achieve the ideal balance between the body and its environment. His works have been included in the collections of the Mudac in Lausanne, the New National Museum of Monaco, the Académie de France, Villa Medici in Rome, the FRAC Ile-de-France in Paris, the FRAC Aquitaine in Bordeaux, the Kadist Art Foundation in Paris, the David RobertsArt Foundation in London, the FRAC Franche- Comté in Besançon, the CAPC in Bordeaux, the Nomas Foundation in Rome, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Musée National d’Art Moderne in Paris, the FNAC Fonds National d’Art Contemporainin Paris, the Fondazione Giuliani in Rome, the MAC/VAL in Vitry-sur-Seine, the Francès Foundation in Senlis, and the VancouverArt Gallery in Canada.
