“the images I paint are of people.at dances, carnivals, sporting events, concertsin restaurants, classroomson beaches, city streets and subways. i love crowds.the movement and energy in the figureshave given me the opportunity to explore degrees of abstraction, pattern and imagery.inspired by light, movement, social interaction.i seek out abstract patterns as a way to tame and control the hyper-sensory and anxiety experience of being in a crowd. having lived in Michigan all of my life, I am drawn to the beach and water. even on a crowded beach, you can find Zen moments and relax. the brilliant colors and dramatic light of the beach can set the stage for fragments of dramas and comedies acted out by characters in colorful costumes.the uninhibited gestures of the partially nude figures and their relationship to each other provide me with a never ending source of inspiration.” Maryjo Lemanski earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan and her Master of Arts from Western Michigan University from Kalamazoo, Michigan. She has exhibited nationally, including museums and galleries in Chicago and throughout Michigan.
