*Carmi Katsir is a second generation glass artist living in Montville, Maine. He is the co-founder of Waterfall Arts Glassworks and runs the glass program at Hidden Valley Camp. His creations can be found in galleries across New England. Katsir is dedicated to perfecting his craft and passionate about teaching. He strives to give others the opportunity to fall in love with glassblowing just as he has. Like blowing glass, a perfect storm is beyond mesmerizing. Its magnificence conceals the interrelated physical forces and conditions that set the stage for its unique existence. Its magnitude reminds us how infinitesimally small we are and reinforces our universal connection...the near impossibility of being alive. This body of work is a visual abstraction of the formation of large weather systems. Using a traditional Venetian glassblowing technique dating back to the 16th century called Filigrana, I stretch molten colored glass into thin canes and build intricate contemporary patterns. Contained within simple elegant forms, the threadlike patterns are revealed upon close inspection.
