"None of us come from a lineage of the tame. No matter what happens, I will always think of myself as that kid living in a van with my hippie parents—that kid who never cried, who dug for gas money dimes under the van seat, who knew that everything good was on the next stretch of highway."Lori Swartz is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans painting, sculpture, performance, experimental video, metalwork, and writing. Based in the historic mining town of Madrid, New Mexico, Swartz creates art that bridges the intimate and the public, driven by what she calls "one loyalty—art—with multiple expressions."Her nomadic childhood instilled a restless creativity that permeates her practice. Whether crafting jewelry, painting canvas, or experimenting with video, Swartz approaches each medium with the curiosity of someone always searching for what lies beyond the next bend in the road.Swartz's literary work has earned recognition, including a $10,000 grant from the Astraea Foundation for poetry. Her poems have appeared in numerous anthologies, and she is currently completing her first full-length novel. As a visual artist, she has been invited to residencies including the Jentel Painting Residency in Wyoming, the Golden Foundation Painting Residency in New York, and The Studios of Key West. Her academic background reflects her multifaceted interests: she holds a BA in Theatre/Communications, a Master's in Social Work, and a Master's Certificate in Psychedelic Assisted Therapy—credentials that inform her understanding of human experience and transformation.Swartz's paintings, sculptures, and jewelry are exhibited in galleries nationwide, and at her home studio in Madrid, New Mexico. Her work continues to explore themes of time, connection, and incantations that refuse to be confined by conventional boundaries.
