My artist story is a new one and constantly evolving. I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelors of Science in Textiles Apparel and Design in 2021 and quickly fell into fine art after graduation. I apprenticed under an amazing mentor and learned all of the tips and tricks of collaging, composition, and how to make art for a living and create a successful business. I enjoy being self taught ; the free flowing nature of learning through doing, while seeing beauty in my mistakes and in the evolution of my work. Inspiration for my work comes mainly from the pieces and found objects that make up the art. I always intend for the overall message of my art to be a light hearted one - lifting your mood and essence by capturing bright colors, nostalgia, and funny sayings. Vintage memorabilia and stories are the root of the process, I pull from old yearbooks, ancestors photographs and Polaroids, imagining the joy behind the smiles or pain behind the eyes. I often gravitate towards text and include advertisements from the 1950’s into a collage. I find the abruptness words have on a piece can change the whole narrative. It is a unique experience for someone to either reminisce or day dream about how things used to be, while being optimistic about where things are going.
