Alicia Philley (b. 1972) moved back to Austin 15 years ago to raise her two children. Her abstract art practice is deeply rooted in the local urban gardens, greenbelts, and state parks. She completed the BFA program in painting at Hunter College, NYC, in 2005 and earned a BA in journalism from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, in 1995. She recently founded the Artist Parents & Caregivers Community, is a founding member of the artist collective IngrainedATX, and works out of both Mothership Studios in San Marcos and Good Dad Studios in South Austin. Galleries across the country have shown her work, including Artspace 111 (Ft. Worth), the Georgetown Art Center, Pleides Gallery, (NYC), and Women & Their Work (Austin). In 2023 she held solo shows at the Dougherty Arts Center and the 14th St. Eco Museum in Austin; created outdoor installations in partnership with both the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and the LBJ Ranch and National Historic Park; and was awarded a 2025 residency with the Pouch Cove Foundation in Newfoundland. Philley’s 2024 projects include a collaborative projection exhibit funded by the San Marcos Arts Commission, on-sight documentation of restoration work with the Native Prairies Association of Texas, and a three-month artist residency in that fall at the Wild Basin Nature Preserve.
