David Carmack Lewis (b. 1965) is an American painter and muralist exploring landscape as drama, personal narrative as myth, and the power of visual metaphors to elicit storytelling. Not quite realism. Not quite surrealism. But veering occasionally into both. Born and raised in Virginia, he has also lived in New York City, Maine, Arizona, Wales and Namibia, before finally settling down in Oregon. Mr. Lewis' oil paintings have won numerous awards and been widely exhibited in Museums, Art Centers and Galleries across the American West and beyond. He has painted large exterior murals for public and private entities throughout the United States. His work has been supported by grants from The Ford Family Foundation, The Oregon Arts Commission and The Regional Arts and Culture Council. His studio work was featured in a solo exhibition at the Coos Art Museum in Oregon after twice winning first place in their annual "Expressions West" show. His mural, "The Big Backyard" in Boise, Idaho, was included in Parade Magazine's survey of the best murals in each state alongside works by Sol LeWitt, Joan Miró and Keith Haring.
