Christopher Hickey earned an MFA degree in printmaking from the University of Nebraska and a BFA degree from Miami University of Ohio. His paintings, prints, and drawings, have been exhibited in numerous international, national, and regional juried exhibitions. Venues include the High Museum of Art, the Sheldon Museum of Art, the LaGrange Museum of Art, Clark Atlanta University Art Museum, the University of Richmond Museums, and the Hardwerker Gallery at Ithaca College, among many others.Artist StatementMy current practice centers on still-life painting. Objects are typically arranged in complex structures to create representational challenges. Working from life, I am attempting to accurately capture the observed forms while balancing the need to achieve an effective composition. In addition to this observational process, there is the intrinsic and/or symbolic meaning of the objects themselves. The works can be artistically formal or narratively complex, depending on the visual challenges experienced during the process of representation. In translating the arrangements of objects onto a picture plane I hope to express a level of sensuality through sight and touch.
