Gabriel Santiago Alatorre: Celebrating the Non-Form. “This world is a tremendous illusion—of perspectives together, of borrowed ideas, of broken dreams. We can only be aware of what we are when we are in a state of contemplation.”Gabriel was born in Mazatlán and is by choice a resident of Ciudad Victoria. A painter by trade, creative, human (as far as we know). Portraitist of atmospheres and empty spaces, creator of immense and tiny worlds, mixed media automaton, photographer, and writer. “For me, flow is the most beautiful moment when I am interacting, being taken by energy, learning, listening with my feminine and masculine sides. I am getting to know the person I inhabit, and at the same time, it is something I will share with other people.” His work ranges from abstract to figurative, with striking colors and totemic animals, diffuse lines, and energetic strokes that give his paintings a magical atmosphere, closer to the realm of sensations and emotions than to realism. From a young age, Gabriel showed an innate interest in the arts, exploring various media and techniques. Throughout his career, he has developed a unique style that blends abstract and figurative elements, using vibrant colors and totemic animals as recurring symbols in his work. Throughout his education, he sought learning outside traditional boundaries. He studied three university courses: Communication, Advertising Photography, and Fine Arts in Guanajuato. However, his true education came from mentors and teachers outside the academic environment. Gabriel complemented his education with workshops in drawing, carpentry, working with resins, screenwriting, audiovisual production, photography, and writing. This wide range of skills has allowed him to approach his art from multiple perspectives, enriching his ability to express emotions and internal concepts. Exhibitions and AchievementsGabriel has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Monterrey, Tlaxcala, Guanajuato, Yucatán, Mexico City, and along the US border. His solo exhibitions have taken place in Ciudad Victoria. He currently lives in Mazatlán and will soon attend a three-month artist residency in Martigny, Switzerland.Philosophy and Creative Process He describes his creative process as a continuous flow of energy and learning. He considers each work an extension of himself, a reflection of his internal sensations and perception of the world. His dreamy and detailed approach leads him to find meaning in every aspect of everyday life, interpreting his existence through his art. “I used to make atmospheric paintings where I wanted to portray empty space, and at the moment of portraying the empty space, I realized that what I was manifesting were my internal sensations, I was projecting my soul, and that’s how I discovered my soul through my work.” Gabriel is represented in Mazatlán by Point Galería, with whom we have partnered to feature some of the most vibrant and interesting artists from that part of Mexico. Solo podemos ser conscientes de lo que somos cuando estamos en un estado de contemplación”. Gabriel nació en Mazatlán y es, por elección, residente de Ciudad Victoria. Pintor de oficio, creativo, humano (hasta donde sabemos). Retratista de atmósferas y espacios vacíos, creador de mundos inmensos y diminutos, autómata de medios mixtos, fotógrafo y escritor. “Para mí, el flujo es el momento más hermoso cuando interactúo, cuando soy llevado por la energía, cuando aprendo, cuando escucho con mis lados femenino y masculino. Estoy conociendo a la persona que habito y, al mismo tiempo, es algo que compartiré con otras personas”. Su obra abarca desde lo abstracto hasta lo figurativo, con colores llamativos y animales tótem, líneas difusas y pinceladas enérgicas que otorgan a sus pinturas una atmósfera mágica, más cercana al reino de las sensaciones y las emociones que al realismo. Desde joven, Gabriel mostró un interés innato por las artes, explorando diversos medios y técnicas. A lo largo de su carrera, ha desarrollado un estilo único que combina elementos abstractos y figurativos, utilizando colores vibrantes y animales tótem como símbolos recurrentes en su obra. Durante su educación, buscó aprender más allá de los límites tradicionales. Estudió tres carreras universitarias: Comunicación, Fotografía Publicitaria y Bellas Artes en Guanajuato. Sin embargo, su verdadera educación provino de mentores y maestros fuera del entorno académico. Gabriel complementó su formación con talleres de dibujo, carpintería, trabajo con resinas, redacción de guiones, producción audiovisual, fotografía y escritura. Esta amplia gama de habilidades le ha permitido abordar su arte desde múltiples perspectivas, enriqueciendo su capacidad para expresar emociones y conceptos internos. Exposiciones y LogrosGabriel ha participado en numerosas exposiciones colectivas en Monterrey, Tlaxcala, Guanajuato, Yucatán, Ciudad de México y a lo largo de la frontera con Estados Unidos. Sus exposiciones individuales han tenido lugar en Ciudad Victoria. Actualmente vive en Mazatlán y pronto asistirá a una residencia artística de tres meses en Martigny, Suiza. Filosofía y Proceso CreativoDescribe su proceso creativo como un flujo continuo de energía y aprendizaje. Considera que cada obra es una extensión de sí mismo, un reflejo de sus sensaciones internas y su percepción del mundo. Su enfoque soñador y detallado lo lleva a encontrar significado en cada aspecto de la vida cotidiana, interpretando su existencia a través de su arte. “Solía hacer pinturas atmosféricas en las que quería retratar el espacio vacío, y en el momento de plasmar ese espacio vacío, me di cuenta de que lo que estaba manifestando eran mis sensaciones internas, estaba proyectando mi alma, y así descubrí mi alma a través de mi obra”. Gabriel está representado en Mazatlán por Point Galería, con quienes nos hemos asociado para destacar a algunos de los artistas más vibrantes e interesantes de esa región de México.
