Born on February 22, 1955, in St. Catherines, Ontario, Edward Burtynsky is a renowned photographer known for his large, industrial landscapes. An avid advocate for environmental conservationism, his work documents the exponential growth of human industrialization and its impact on natural landscapes. His photography had him touring worldwide, from exhibitions in London, Italy, and China, to the Art Gallery of Ontario and the National Gallery of Canada in 2018. As an accredited photographer and lecturer, Burtynsky has received plenty of awards such as the 2005 TED Prize, Officer of the Order of Canada (2006), Master of Photo (2018), Peace Patron Award (2018), and Best Canadian Documentary (2019).
