Birds take up a prominent place in the works of Mark Dedrie. His stylized sculptures in bronze are works of art with unique use of patina, many of which have found their place in different continents. From bronze caster to artist Mark started his career casting bronze. He mastered the ‘trade’ and at the same time felt an urge to create. Carefully he began, step by step, seldomly happy with the results. In 1996 a turning point came. The town of Schoten commissioned him to execute a design he had submitted for a competition. A new ‘artist/sculptor’ arose! From a debut with abstract sculptures, a gradual evolution to stylized bronzes of the human and animal form, to -this for the past 13 years- exclusively animals, such as penguins, mammals and seahorses, with a preference for birds such as aquatic and field birds, owls and hawks. Nature is always the inspiration for Mark’s creations. He starts with the animals in their natural habitat and draws his inspiration from poses, certain movements, color combinations and even their stares. His works capture a moment. In their simplicity, in their starkness. Impressive international career Mark Dedrie is internationally active. His sculptures are being sold in The Netherlands, the United Kingdom, France and the Middle East. He has been exhibited in various, exceptional locations such as the Royal Botanical Gardens in London and the Weltvogelpark in Germany. Mark was also twice selected for Art and the Animal (in 2018 and 2019) and in 2019 he was exhibited for the first time in Birds in Art, a museum exposition that has been organized every year since 1976 by the Woodson Art Museum in Wausau. This exposition shows only the best of contemporary, artistic interpretations of birds. The sculpture that was selected, the Sword-billed Hummingbird, also received a spot in the museum’s collection. In 2020 the committee selected another one of Mark’s sculptures; ‘Let’s Dance’, two elegantly dancing birds. "Mark Dedrie is internationally active. His sculptures are being sold in The Netherlands, the United Kingdom, France and the Middle East. Mark was also selected for Art and the Animal and Birds in Art."
