The son of world-renowned wildlife artist and hunting and fishing enthusiast Milton C. Weiler, Dale Weiler has inherited his father’s sensitivity and passion for the outdoors. Milt Weiler passed away over twenty years ago and since his death Dale had honored his father’s wished for him not to pursue art as his primary profession. The love for art and the need to express himself artistically, however, ultimately became too great a force to withstand and Dale began to sculpt in 1992. With no formal art training, but endowed with a very special gift from his father, Dale made his entrée into art through sculpting burls. From there he has expanded into stone and bronze. His greatest interest lies in aquatic wildlife, where he strives to capture the fluidity and grace of his subjects within their environment. In the short time Dale has been pursuing his art career, he has already received exceptional accolades. In his very first competition, the 1994 State of Maine Wildlife Art Exhibition, he received “Best of Show” honors. An even greater award was bestowed upon him when the American Museum of Fly Fishing met in Manchester, VT. Asked if he would exhibit his work along with his father’s in a father/son show titled “Weiler and Weiler – The Vision Continues” (which ran from June through November of 1995). His list of achievements was significantly enhanced when he was accepted into the prestigious Society of Animal Artists in February of 1996. This accomplishment is somewhat unprecedented, considering the extremely brief time that Dale has been pursuing art and having been accepted on his very first application to the society. During the past year his work has been exhibited in several juried/ invitational shows. In virtually all of the shows in which awards were presented, he received “Best of Show” honors. His work is exhibited in numerous fine galleries throughout the country and will be shown at several prestigious exhibitions during the upcoming year. Dale and his wife, Ann, have recently relocated to the mountains of western North Carolina where he is redirecting his life toward his passion for sculpting.
