George Northup makes his home near the Snake River in Jackson Hole, where he and his family have lived for thirty years. It is also where he draws inspiration from for his sculptures of wildlife and figures in bronze. Encouraged many years ago by the resident artist Grant Hagen, Conrad Schwiering, John Clymer and others to pursue the creation of images in metal, George has made sculpture his life’s work for more than twenty years. His work has been widely acknowledged, honored and collected. It can be found in museums, corporate and private collections across the country, and in many places around the world. He has completed a large monumental sculpture commissioned by the Grand National Waterfowl Hunt Club in Cambridge, Maryland which is the focal point for a new eastern shore information center. In a striking concept, the piece is over twenty feet high and depicts a flock of Canadian Geese, life-sized in bronze, turning into the wind and landing. George spends many weeks each year traveling and researching his wildlife and sporting subjects. He continually works with other artists and individuals to gain more insight into the pursuit of his art.
