Patrick Matthews is a multi-talented man. As a graduate of the University of Arizona School of Architecture, he has enjoyed success both as an independent architect and an artist for over ten years. Many know him as a registered architect with an impressive list of banks, office buildings, homes, and hotels to his credit. Others know him as an avid wilderness camper and as an accomplished hunter and fisherman. An increasing number of people know Patrick as a neo-impressionist painter, who, like the 19th century impressionists he has studied, will disappear into the woods with his truck, 4-wheeler, or fishing boat in tow to willingly endure wind, rain, storm, and the elements to capture his vision of form and beauty. There is a unique sense of immediacy about Patrick's work. His studio still-lifes, landscapes, and scenes from along the blue highways of America, France, Spain, Italy, and Mexico convey a palatable and unmistakable energy and passion. In an intense visual language of texture and color, Patrick is able to capture the true essence of a sunset or sunrise as the experience naturally occurs. Patrick's passion for painting has led him to explore new areas to inspire his works and to display them. Taking an extended leave from the buttoned down world of architecture, Patrick has recently moved to Little Rock, Arkansas. Painting in the high desert of New Mexico, in the wetlands and backwoods of his native Arkansas, or along some forgotten rural road in a foreign land, Patrick's bold use of color and texture, his disciplined and deliberate brush strokes, and his unique perspectives make his subjects resonate with a visceral impact rarely experienced.
