Daniel Bailey is a 22 year old artist from coastal Massachusetts. His paintings are inspired by the wilderness he saw while traveling over 1,000 miles by canoe through the northeast USA and Canada, and trips to the American west. Daniel seeks to emulate the sense of wonder he feels while exploring the natural world in his paintings. Using dramatic expressions of light and color, he hopes to instill in the viewer a sense of optimism, relaxation, wonder, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of the world. From the artist: “I would consider myself a romantic realist. I like to keep a realistic look and feel while also slightly pushing the scene beyond realism. Exaggerating atmosphere and color and painting with expressive brushstrokes and a palette knife helps me paint scenes that have a dreamy, optimistic, and nostalgic feel. I enjoy painting a wide variety of subjects, from mountains to oceans and everything in between. While I work, I keep in mind memories of exploring the forest as a child, when the world buzzed with magic and wonder. If I’m lucky, some of that magic will be captured in my paintings.”
