Jackie Ranney’s work pushes us to consider our legacy. What do we really leave behind? What will remain to be unearthed by our successors? Jackie explores these questions in her large scale mixed media contemporary work. Jackie’s primary medium is marine debris that she cleans and collects from Massachusetts’ beaches and other places she travels, including Europe. Drawing inspiration from her background in archaeology, Ranney embeds old plaster and other materials in her work to paint these artifacts into the contemporary world. Inspired by her sense of place, Jackie creates work that infuses a space with serenity, expansiveness, and interest. Her colors and compositions are soothing with color contrasts, patterns, and shapes that are influenced by the elements: the sea, sky, and surrounding nature. Ranney works with an array of beach trash and marine debris including fishing rope, balloons, bottle caps, buoys, plastic packaging, lobster traps, and much more. Her passion for the wild natural world and ancient human roots synthesizes harmoniously with Ranney’s environmental activism. Through her work, Jackie draws attention to our modern problem of plastic pollution while creating masterful works of art that will stand the test of time. Jackie has been featured in various publications including The Boston Globe, South Shore Life and Home Style, CBS This Morning, The Patriot Ledger, and more.
