Todd Moses masters the light and how it bends. While there are places which seem to have been photographed almost ‘too much’, including some even he has previously shot, Todd is always looking for a new perspective—a fresh take—on important locations. Nature will always provide us with different skies and varying conditions each day, yet capturing these variations and revealing a unique new vision is something at which he excels. The beauty of the Pacific Northwest has been a major inspiration for Todd, evident in so much of his work. Yet traveling throughout the United States and Asia, including faraway places like Thailand, Laos, and Bali, enables him to create even more exceptional images. Being able to share this work with others has now become his main source of inspiration. Most recently, Todd has developed an interest in capturing the stars as a central element of his images, as you can see with his recent pictures of the Milky Way over Mount Rainier. He enjoys the challenges of night photography and the advanced editing techniques required to make these kinds of images come to life. His lifelong interest in photography originated with parents who were photography enthusiasts, so much so that the family home was equipped with a darkroom as Todd was growing up. Todd’s arrival in Washington State came as he was stationed at Fort Lewis with the Army. Attracted by the beauty of the Northwest during his military career, he stayed after his service was completed. In Todd’s images, you’ll visit places which often feel surreal. But much of the dreamlike quality of his pictures comes from the unique ways in which he ensnares and exhibits light. We’re excited to show Todd’s amazing photographs at Barlow Gallery.
