Sergei Mikhailovich Kamanin was born on June 24, 1915 in Vasilevo, Nizhny-Novgorod. He studied at the Yaroslavl Art School (1932-1935), the Moscow Art School of Memory in 1905 (1936-1939), and at the Institute of Cinematography/VGIK (1939-1943) under F.S. Bogorodsky. Sergei Kamanin began teaching at VGIK upon graduation (1943), he later became a full professor (1969) and eventually became Deacon of the Institute's art department (1987). Sergei Kamanin was an active participant in exhibitions (beginning 1947). His personal exhibitions were held in Chkalovsk, Nizhny-Novgorod region (1956), Moscow (1957, 1959, 1966, 1974, 1983), and Tula (1962, 1963). He participated in the exhibition "Soviet Russia" in Moscow (1960). Sergei Kamanin became a member of the Artists Union of the USSR and was named Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1968). He is the brother of artist Aleksandr Mikhailovich Kamanin (1905-1989). The artist's works are represented in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Gorky Art Museum, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, private collections in Russia and abroad. Sergei Mikhailovich Kamanin died in 2002 at 87 years of age.
