Artist Statement Over the past 25 years I’ve been refining my ceramic skills working with clay wherever my professional life took me. I’ve worked in clay studios in Boulder, Co., San Francisco, Ca., San Diego, Ca. and now back to my home state of South Carolina. My current work is inspired by my mother’s passion for gardening and our shared fondness for unique flora. A number of the vessels are subtly reflective of the native flora in San Diego, where the plants grow large and often whimsical. Many that reference Dr. Suess-like forms. All pieces are porcelain clay. Each piece combines wheel throwing with hand applied technique to create an embossing, debossing or etched effect. Each piece is glazed with a matte or glass finish. All pieces are dishwasher and microwave safe.
