Olga Gavrilovskiy draws on her Russian heritage as a well of inspiration for her art.Olga is a child of two nations, two cultures. Born and raised in Russia, in a provincial town in the middle of Siberia, she immigrated to the U.S. with her family as a teenager. She fell in love with the lush forests, mountains and ocean views of the Pacific Northwest when she first visited Seattle and made Washington state her new home. While in Russia, she received training in figure drawing, oil painting, and Russian folk art. In America, she continued her formal art education and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Washington in Seattle. In her art, Olga primarily focuses on the human figure and portraiture, capturing deep emotions in her subjects' subtle, quiet expressions. She also explores the concept of landscapes and places that live in our memories as haunting portraits of the soul. Her portraits and landscapes, rooted in the heritage and beauty of her homeland, are infused with an air of lyrical melancholy that tugs at the heart ever so gently, yet, persistently. The Russian culture is a poetic culture, and Olga inherited a strong love for poetry from her school years, where studying Russian poetic giants was an integral part of the curriculum. She started writing poetry as a young college student, and it has carried her through many challenging times in life. Some of her paintings have companion poems attached to them. Olga’s debut poetry book “Unicorn Hunt” is available HERE on Amazon. Olga’s paintings have been included in dozens of art exhibitions and won numerous awards in the Pacific Northwest. She is currently the artist-in-residence at a Seattle-area frame shop where she showcases her work and offers her services for commissions and portraits.
