Ali Stayer and her husband, Phil, reside in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Ali's journey as an oil painter began 25 years ago under the guidance of her mother, Hilda Brown, a distinguished artist from Montgomery, Alabama. With five children now grown, Ali has transitioned what was once a beloved hobby into a full-time career. "I create most of my paintings in my home studio, drawing inspiration from photographs I take and images I collect. I do love plein-air painting, and am challenging myself to step out of the studio more often. My mother was an incredible artist, renowned for her beautiful depiction of the sky. A a child, I would look at the clouds and think how perfect they'd be for mom to paint! I believe my work reflects those early influences from her artistry." Ali's work is characterized by southern landscape, coastal scenes and depictions from her travel across Europe and the United States. She identifies as a representational artist. "When I'm working from a photograph, I always ask myself, 'what drew me to the scene?', that's where my process begins, capturing the emotion behind the image. My goal is not just to replicate a photograph, but to evoke the feeling that inspires it." Ali's art is showcased at Caron Gallery in Tupelo and Laurel, Pacesetter Gallery in Flowood and Studio Gallery 30A and Grayton Beach, Florida. Her work as often been selected by the HGTV Home Town design team to decorate home after their renovations. Always eager to refine her craft, Ali has attended workshops led by Roger Dale Brown, Ingrid Christiansen, and has completed a mentorship with Dawn Whitelaw.
