Joan McConaghy is a Providence-based artist whose work is inspired by her extensive travels. As an exhibiting member of the historic Providence Art Club, her practice, based in the Deacon Taylor House, is guided by her surroundings and informed by documentary photography related to her travel and design background. Joan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Painting, a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology and Graphic Arts, and a Masters degree in Instructional Design. She attended the Doctoral Program at Boston University in Educational Media and Technology and pursued other courses of the study in art at the Rhode Island School of Design’s Continuing Education program and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. Joan taught Graphic Arts at Rhode Island College and has since pursued her own studio practice on a full time basis. Joan is an Artist Member of the Wickford Art Association and the Pawtucket Arts Collaborative, and serves on the Board of Managers as chair for the Membership Committee at the Providence Art Club. Her work has been included in a wide variety of juried exhibitions and honored with several awards. Her works have been placed in numerous professional venues and acquired by a diverse portfolio of clients throughout New England, the United States, and Europe.
