Sue Foell hails from Erie, Pennsylvania where she had the great fortune of living out her childhood close to Lake Erie. Spending time outdoors in her beautiful surroundings was a big part of her life. That contact with nature, along with being exposed to art at a young age through her father, has had a lasting impact. With an innate attraction to art, she dabbled in a wide variety of artistic activities. After working as a graphic artist for 14 years and starting a family, oil painting finally took center stage in 2002. Since that time, she has continued to hone her skills, studying oil painting with several accomplished oil painters. Portrait painting is her number one love, but she also enjoys painting still life and landscapes. She has received numerous awards at various national art competitions over the years, including the Salon International Juried Exhibitions, the Oil Painters of America’s National Juried Exhibitions, and the Portrait Society of America’s Members Only Competition. In 2017, Foell achieved Signature Membership Status in the Oil Painters of America for her outstanding accomplishments in representational oil painting. Sue currently paints fulltime from her studio in Durham, North Carolina. She is accepting portrait commissions and painting “whatever looks beautiful.”
