OIL ON CANVASBRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA Marleen Vermeulen is an artist living and working on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, Canada. She is inspired by the way she experiences the natural beauty that surrounds her: the expansive landscapes, the unique mark left by the light on her surroundings, and the range of textures within the natural elements. On large oil paint canvases, Marleen captures her interpretation of a unique moment in time. Her signature style includes elements of impressionism that can appear abstract up close, all while forming realistic images from a distance. Marleen intends for her work to immerse the viewer in a dynamic experience beyond the painting itself. “...a narrative lies within the beauty of the landscape. A story to be heard and deeply felt, an experience to be had.” Marleen received most of her art education in the Netherlands, where she was born. She is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Utrecht and studied at the Design Academy in Eindhoven. In the 80’s and early 90’s Marleen enjoyed an extensive international and award-winning career in graphic design; she was based in the Netherlands and United Kingdom until 1994. Over her career, hundreds of Marleen’s works have been placed and featured in public showings and have been acquired by numerous art collections in Canada and worldwide.
