LYNX was born in Dong Thap, Vietnam in 1985. LYNX and his family moved to the United States in 1993 to escape persecution from the communist regime. As a young boy growing up in the Communist Country of Vietnam, LYNX experienced fear and hardship, and one way to find mental comfort was to take refuge in the teaching of the Enlightened Saints. LYNX graduated from Georgia State University in 2011 with a BFA in Studio Art with an interest in Eastern philosophy and religion. In 2016, LYNX earned his MFA in Painting from Savannah College of Art and Design, which he focuses most of his effort on drawing, especially marks making, as a tool for self-discipline. Artist Statement: "My work is a testament to the power of discipline, a principle that serves as the main focus of my artistic journey. Through the use of mixed media, I explore the concept of discipline in its various forms and manifestations. My art is not confined to a single medium or technique, but rather it is a fusion of mark-making, languages, and teachings translated from English to French, Bulgarian, and Chinese. The teachings I incorporate into my work are not ordinary words, but holy teachings that speak of eternity, virtue, and enlightenment. These teachings serve as a bridge, connecting the viewer to the profound wisdom of ancient civilizations and inviting them to embark on a journey towards understanding and self-discovery. The process of translating these teachings into different languages is a discipline in itself. It requires patience, precision, and a deep understanding of each language's nuances. This process is a metaphor for the discipline required in our journey towards enlightenment. My art is a visual representation of these teachings, an exploration of the eternal and the virtuous. Each piece is a step on the path towards enlightenment, a testament to the discipline required to walk this path. In my work, I invite the viewer to join me on this journey, to explore the depths of their own discipline, and to discover the eternal and virtuous within themselves."
