Richard Hebhardt embraces the wild world. As an accomplished nature photographer for decades, Richard travels widely in search of compelling opportunities for great images. His pictures of wildlife and sweeping landscapes reflect not only his love of the natural world, but also a distinctive vision and style. He has enjoyed very public exposure, with his photographs being exhibited in museums across the country, including the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. (National Museum of Natural History), the Oakland Museum of California (commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco), and the Alaska State Museum. Twice, he has been recognized by Nature’s Best Photography, a well-regarded wildlife magazine, and he has received a “Highly Honored” Windland Smith Rice International Award for an image in the category of “African Wildlife”. The image taken of a male elephant and gathering of zebras at sunset in the Kalahari Desert of Botswana helps showcase the efforts of the African Wildlife Foundation. Based in beautiful Juneau, Alaska, Richard is a life-long photographer; anthropologist and biologist by training; as well as a retired educator. He has received international recognition in competitions such as the Siena International Photo Awards in Italy, as well as the 2024 Maria Luisa Memorial Photo Contest in Spain. With a special focus on Alaska, Africa and Hawaii, his images have been featured in publications including National Geographic Traveler, Audubon, National Wildlife, The Guardian, Desert Call, and Alaska Airlines Magazine.
