Manty Dey (b. 1988 Kumarghat, India) is a visual artist working in Atlanta, GA. Dey earned a BFA in painting and drawing from Georgia State University, and an MFA from the University of Georgia. Dey’s work has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the Southeast including MOCA GA, Georgia Museum of Art, Macon Museum of Arts and Sciences, MINTGallery, Swan Coach House Gallery, and Kai Lin Gallery. She has been awarded residencies at Vermont Studio Center and The Hambidge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences. In this recent body of work, Dey continues her exploration with botanical abstractions on canvas. Using floral motifs as an anchor in the forming image, she investigates the intricate relationships between light, color, shadow, and organic shapes that undulate across the surface. She moves slowly between playful abstraction, relying on collected imagery and visual memory to find ways to disorient the viewer deeper into the lushness of the painting. Each layer unveils traces of intentional and improvised gestures as they accumulate and dissolve over time and temperament.FOLLOW MANTY DEY ON INSTAGRAM
