Janet grew up in Greensboro, NC and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a BS in Interior Design and a minor in art. She worked with a commercial architectural firm in Chapel Hill before accepting a position with Wachovia Banking Corporation as director of design for their worldwide offices and curator of Wachovia’s corporate art collection. After sixteen years in the design field, Jan started Fancy Finishes, a decorative painting business which she owned and operated in Winston-Salem, NC for several years. Oil painting is now her career. Janet's work is traditionally representational and her paintings evoke a timeless elegance whether it is a still life, landscape/seascape or figure painting. She enjoys painting from nature in her still life and plein air work which she uses as a guide in producing her larger studio paintings. Living on Bald Head Island provides a wonderful venue for her landscape and seascape work. Janet is an Associate Member of Oil Painters of America, The Smith Island Art League and The Wilmington Art Association. Her work has won several awards locally and regionally and has been used in several movies and television productions, including Clint Eastwood's "J. Edgar" and the upcoming television series "Secret Lies" and "Good Behavior". “My goal in painting is to create and convey to the viewer the feeling of contentment, awe, peace or tranquility I felt when I saw the subject I am painting. If I can do that then I believe the painting is a success.”
