Elizabeth Mae Harrington [Betty] was born in San Diego on August 27, 1919. As a young girl her family moved to Piedmont, California and Betty attended the exclusive Anna Head's School for Girls in Berkeley. Betty went on to graduate from Berkeley's University of California in 1941. She immediately enrolled at the California School of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, but her studies were soon interrupted as she joined the Women's Army Corps in 1942. Elizabeth Harrington served in the U.S.A., England and much later in Korea, eventually discharged from service in 1953. While living in Carmel, Harrington studied art with Pat & John Cunningham of the Carmel Art Association. Betty joined the Carmel Art Association in the 1960's. Betty kept a studio/gallery at Carmel's Pine Inn, named Harrington-Brown Gallery, until sometime in the early 1970's. Although she was not painting much towards the end of her life, she remained in Carmel and designed and painted some cover art for the local "Game and Gossip" magazine.
