Watts grew up in an artistic family and throughout her professional career, she was also awatercolor artist, painting still life and pet portraits for friends and family. The opportunity forearly retirement allowed her to embark on a second career and full-time artistic journey in 2018.Watts took workshops as needed to develop and hone her skills in abstract painting, use ofacrylic medium, art fundamentals, and art history. Soon, she evolved into a self-taught artist, making her own unique abstract artwork. In 2021, inspiration struck, and she began thinking about the possibility of weaving canvas intoartwork. A grant from the North Carolina Arts Council the same year allowed her to explore thisidea and create a body of work. Since moving to Sarasota in 2022, she has continued herjourney, expanding her artistic skills by refining her work with woven abstracts. Watts’ first soloexhibition in Florida featured seventeen large scale woven abstracts in a six-month longexhibition Weaving Dreams at Art Ovation Hotel in 2024.The woven abstract paintings Watts makes utilize her creative side and her analytical side. Theprocess includes free expression in painting two complementary yet harmonious abstractpaintings on unstretched canvas. The methodical weaving of those paintings into a single workof art represents the interconnection of all things and always creates unexpected patterns andresults. Her award-winning artwork can be found in private collections across the U.S.
