[FR] Laurence Philomène est un.e artiste non-binaire de Montréal qui crée des photographies colorées inspirées par ses expériences vécues en tant que personne transgenre chroniquement malade. Sa pratique artistique célèbre l'existence trans et étudie l'identité en tant qu'espace en constante évolution à travers des images hautement saturées, cinématographiques et vulnérables.S'intéressant à la création d'images à l'adolescence, Laurence a depuis utilisé la photographie comme espace à la fois pour expérimenter et documenter l'identité telle qu'elle s'exprime à travers le genre. Son travail vise à humaniser des identités historiquement marginalisées et à agir comme une lettre d'amour à leur communautés.Laurence est lauréat.e de The 30 ("PDN 30" - 2020), récipiendaire de la bourse Getty Images Creatives In Quarantine (2020), de la bourse d'artiste émergent de la Fondation Lucie (2019) et du programme de mentorat 2020 Women Photograph. [EN] Laurence Philomene is a non-binary artist from Montreal who creates colourful photographs informed by their lived experiences as a chronically ill transgender person. Their practice celebrates trans existence and studies identity as a space in constant flux via highly-saturated, cinematic, and vulnerable images. Gaining an interest in image-making in their teenage years, Laurence has since used photography as space to both experiment with, and document identity as it comes to be expressed through gender. Using photography as a process of mutual [and self] care, their work aims to humanize identities that have been historically marginalized, and act as a love letter to their community. Laurence is an honouree of The 30 (“PDN 30” - 2020), recipient of the Getty Images Creatives In Quarantine Bursary (2020), the Lucie Foundation emerging artist scholarship (2019), and the 2020 Women Photograph mentorship program. Their work has been presented in exhibitions and publications worldwide, including solo exhibits in Canada, Germany, France, and Poland. Their work has also been showcased in several exhibitions at renowned institutions, including the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art in New York in 2024, followed by a show at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester in 2025. Later this year, their work will be highlighted at the Photo Elysée Museum in Switzerland. Finally, the 2024 documentary LARRY(IEL), directed by Catherine Legault, offers a powerful and insightful exploration of the complex and often misunderstood spectrum of trans and non-binary identities and experiences, seen through the work and world of Laurence Philomène.
