“I approach landscape painting as a process of combining materials, time and thought. Before the painting becomes physical, the process starts with an exploration of place, and time. That exploration is sometimes done over a series of visits during different seasons. This allows me to understand how time of day and weather affect a specific location. Rivers and streams as well as the connection between land and sky are what move me. Even though most of my paintings are from locations within a 3-hour drive of my home, creating the painting allows me to spend hours at a time at the location that has become my subject, without leaving my studio.” Audrey Brown has been a working artist for over 30 years. After receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, Brown began combining her academic education with her lifetime love for exploring the natural world around her. She is inspired by these experiences to create her oil landscape paintings. Audrey Brown has participated in many juried, invitational, and solo exhibitions. In the last 2 years venues for these exhibits include, Hudson River Gallery in Coralville, Iowa, The Gilded Pear Gallery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Olson-Larsen Galleries in Des Moines. Her work is represented in private collections nationally, and internationally. Audrey Brown’s work is also part of the permanent collection of the Muscatine Art Center, and the Dewitt public library.
