Art found Lorra later in life. Once she moved to Georgia from Texas, she decided to make a change and enrolled in interior design courses at The Atlanta College of Arts. Exposure and interest in interior design led to painting. Once she started, she never stopped. She is represented by several galleries and has had solo shows in Georgia and Virginia. She has exhibited at the Atlanta Swan House, Atlanta Botanical Garden and several designer show houses. Her work has been featured on Tamara Day’s hit television show “Bargain Mansions.” She is in private collections across the US and abroad. Artist Statement:My artwork reflects my deep connection to what matters most to me - nature, family, home and exploring the world. I express these themes loosely by capturing the flight of a hummingbird, the texture of a nest, or the vibrant colors in a bouquet of flowers. Merging abstraction with identifiable imagery creates an interplay between the two and invites the viewer to experience both the familiar and unexpected. The beginning of my artistic journey was inspired by hummingbirds. My dad kept several feeders on his porch in East Texas and found joy in watching them. After he passed, I started painting them and through that process, it felt as though he was encouraging me to take the leap and pursue my passion as an artist. Mixing up mixed media and experimentation are at the heart of my process. I work with a variety of materials constantly asking myself, “What if I tried this?” This curiosity has led me to incorporate hand-dyed silk, bed sheets, encaustic wax, plaster and other unconventional materials to create visual interest. Inspired by travel, the beauty in nature and my environment, painting brings me joy and is like solving a complex puzzle. The satisfaction of creating fills my heart and soul, deepening my understanding of myself and the world around me.
